The Fourth Industrial Revolution

"The Fourth Industrial Revolution is interacting with other socio-economic and demographic factors to create a perfect storm of business model change in all industries, resulting in major disruptions to labour markets. New categories of jobs will emerge, partly or wholly displacing others. The skill sets required in both old and new occupations will change in most industries and transform how and where people work." — World Economic Forum, 2018, Future of Jobs Report

Soft Skills

The World Economic Forum identified the following soft skills as essential for the twenty-first century leader:

  • Adaptability

  • Collaboration

  • Persuasion

  • Innovation

  • Creativity

  • Time-Management

These skills are not learned by watching PowerPoint presentations or listening to lectures; they must be applied, practiced, and coached. PEER-XL™ is an activity-based peer-mentoring program where participants learn by applying, peer mentoring, and practice. Participants apply these skills directly in the workplace throughout the program. Your organization directly benefits as they learn.

PEER-XL™ participants also study the hard skills central to critical and analytical thinking. They research and produce a measurable workplace improvement project customized to the needs of your business. They learn:

  • Analytical thinking

  • Appreciative Change™

  • Complex problem-solving

  • Systematic Investigation™

  • Set-Driven Solutions

Innovation and Collaboration

Developing skills in innovation and collaboration does not look or feel like traditional business skill development. The PEER-XL™ program directs participants in a series of structured activities over the course of the year to build these skills, including:

  • Daily Intention Journaling™ —a daily activity where participants focus their thoughts and energy for ten minutes on a topic relevant to the class.

  • Weekly Peer Mentoring—a weekly activity where two participants practice collaborating, coaching, mentoring, and accountability skills.

  • Monthly Manager Feedback—a monthly structured meeting between a program participant and their manager to review progress, gather insights, and provide bi-directional feedback.

  • Monthly Summit—a monthly facilitated all-day workshop all participants attend. The workshop provides direction on performing a workplace improvement initiative, and instruction on essential management skills including: presentation skills, visioning skills, learning styles, analysis skills, coaching skills, mentoring skills, listening skills, time management skills, and conflict resolution skills.

The program challenges participants to identify specific ways they will apply their skills at work. No element in the program is stand-alone—all learning is revisited and reinforced continually throughout the entire program.

"I already knew we had an excellent team who pride themselves on being the best in their field. What I didn’t know was how much better they could become individually and as a team. This Program has returned far more than our initial investment, and will result in potentially more lives being saved. We cannot put a price on that."Senior Director, Emergency Services

"As you know, I wanted to pull out of the course on the first day when I found out we needed to give a presentation on day two, but thanks to you I stuck it out, and I am happy I did. Just last week I was asked to give a presentation of my project to the Minister. I couldn’t have done that without your support and without everything I have learned and been through in the course over the whole year. Thank you for getting me past being terrified to express my ideas. I am still scared, but at least now I know I can do it. Whatever it may be, I feel like I can do it."—Frontline Manager, Government Department

How Is This Program Different?

The majority of training and mentoring programs are essentially 'one hit wonders.'  A trainer or consultant comes in and teaches the how (and sometimes the why) of a specific tactic or technique. The trainer then leaves at the completion of the program and new mentoring ends.

PEER-XL™ is an innovative program that not only enhances the skills and knowledge of the participants; it teaches them how to learn, teach, coach, and mentorso the process continues organically even after the structured program ends.
